North Korea has launched two ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan. The launches were spaced ten minutes apart, the Japanese Ministry of Defense said. Pyongyang has launched missiles for the second time in three days.
The North Korean military launched two ballistic missiles on Wednesday. The launch of the first missile was reported by the Japanese Defense Ministry, which oversees such launches. In the Explanation the authority states:
“The ballistic missile was launched from North Korea.”
Also, the Department of Defense promised to provide more information about the launch as it becomes available. The South Korean News Agency Yonhap reported citing the South Korean Armed Forces General Staff Committee that North Korea had launched an unspecified ballistic missile. A day after that launch, South Korea and the US began the first joint naval exercise in five years, also involving a US aircraft carrier. The four-day exercise, which began Sept. 26, will involve the aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan, the Korean destroyers Seoae Ryu Sung-ryong and Munmu the Great, equipped with the Aegis ballistic missile control system, the US nuclear submarine “Annapolis” and other ships involved. In addition to the ships, the air forces of both countries are also involved in the exercise.
Pyongyang began active missile testing earlier this year. North Korea fired missiles at least 20 times between January and September.
