British police have arrested an armed man in the gardens of Windsor Castle, on Saturday.
Thames Valley Police said the security breach occurred at 8:30 a.m. on Christmas Day, and the 19-year-old from Southampton is in custody.
Thames Valley Police Chief Rebecca Mears said, “The young man was arrested on suspicion of violating or trespassing on a protected site and possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in custody at this time.”
“We can confirm that the security operations began within moments of the person entering the area and was unable to enter any buildings,” she added. Members of the royal family have been informed.
Queen Elizabeth II is spending Christmas at Windsor Castle, after deciding not to stay at Sandringham Palace, in eastern England, where she used to spend the festive season with the family.
