During the international talks to regulate the situation in Syria in the Astana format, the Russian special envoy once again called for the withdrawal of foreign troops from Syria. In a joint statement, the three guarantee powers Moscow, Tehran and Ankara condemned Israel’s ongoing attacks on Syria.

During the international talks to regulate the situation in Syria in the Astana format, the Russian special envoy Alexander Lavrentiev once again called for the withdrawal of foreign troops from Syria that are illegally stationed in the country. At the same time, he expressed the hope that the Syrian province of Idlib will be finally liberated from terrorists in the coming year.
The Russian diplomat explicitly addressed himself not only to the US occupation forces, but also to Turkey. The Turkish government emphasizes again and again that it is committed to the territorial integrity and independence of Syria and that it is only present there temporarily with its own military.
Moscow had offered the Turkish government help in the fight against terror in Idlib – now it was Turkey’s turn. “We very much hope that the next year will bring positive results in this regard, that we can manage to get rid of the terrorist threat emanating from the areas in Idlib through a joint approach within the framework of the Astana format,” said Lawrentjew.
In a joint statement at the 17th session of the Astana Process, Moscow, Tehran and Ankara condemned Israel’s ongoing attacks on Syria, stating that they pose a threat to the stability and security of the region. They called for an end to the aggression. Press TV according to the three states condemned the use of civil aircraft as shields in its attacks on Syria, the country violating international law and endangering the lives of civilians.
With the Astana format, Russia, Iran and Turkey have not only created a platform for negotiations on Syria’s future. The discussion forum also served to channel disputes among the three guarantee powers.
