After the rumor increased, Brigitte Macron, the wife of the French president, began taking legal action after allegations that she was transgender, her lawyer announced.
“The legal proceedings against a number of individuals began after the false allegations gained new impetus following the publication of a video clip on social media on December 10,” lawyer Jan Inuchi told Reuters.
Inochi did not mention the names of those being prosecuted, nor did he specify whether the complaint was submitted to a civil or criminal court.
And people belonging to the far-right attacked Brigitte Macron, 68, on social media after an extremist publication published an article about the “Briggit Macron mystery.”
Alleged rumors indicate that she was born as Jean-Michel Tronio. Tronio is Brigitte Macron’s maiden name.
The attacks on Brigitte come as Macron prepares for re-election in April, although he has not officially announced his candidacy.
