Liverpool completed the contract of the semi-finalists of the League of Professional Football Clubs Cup, after its marathon victory 5-4 on penalties against its guest Leicester City on Wednesday in the quarter-finals of the competition.
The original time of the match ended at “Anfield” with a 3-3 draw, as Leicester advanced with two early goals through its star Jimmy Vardy in the ninth and 13th minutes, before Liverpool reduced the difference with a goal through Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the 19th minute.
James Madison added the third goal for Leicester in the 33rd minute, but the Portuguese Diogo Jota scored the second goal for Liverpool in the 68th minute, so that the hosts tried to equalize during the remaining time until they achieved what they wanted after the Japanese Takumi Minamino scored a fatal goal in the fifth minute of the calculated time. Instead of wasted for the second half, the two teams ruled for penalty kicks, which finally smiled in favor of Liverpool.
The two teams meet again on Tuesday at King Power Stadium, the stronghold of Leicester in the English Premier League.
