Two current surveys are intended to reflect the current mood in the country. The polling institutes Forsa and Civey surveyed “selected citizens” on the subjects of contact restrictions, Omikron variants and attitudes towards compulsory vaccinations.
The polling institutes Forsa and Civey led, according to the news agency dpa current surveys. According to this, 66 percent of those questioned were in favor of a new lockdown being imposed soon by politicians. Almost 40 percent of German citizens expressed their fear of the “particularly contagious” (dpa) Corona variant Omikron to become ill.
The market and opinion research institute Forsa conducted surveys on behalf of RTL Germany on December 17 and 20, 2021 1,005 Germans. According to the survey, around two-thirds of German citizens continue to consider “the closing of shops, clubs and leisure facilities as well as exit and contact restrictions to be an adequate means” according to the survey, “in the fight against rising numbers of corona infections” dpa. The two questions were:
- Against the background of the only slowly increasing vaccination rate and the sharply increasing number of new infections, some in Germany are discussing the introduction of a general compulsory vaccination against corona. How do you see it: Should vaccination against Corona continue to be voluntary or should there be compulsory vaccination for all citizens for whom there are no health reasons against it?
- If the number of infections continues to rise: Do you then consider comprehensive nationwide measures, such as those taken at the end of last year, including the closure of shops, clubs and leisure facilities, exit and contact restrictions for all citizens and the ban on major events to be right or not?

According to the results, “a large majority of 72 percent of German citizens” is in favor of a general vaccination requirement. 26 percent are against it. In the dpa-The report says: “Of the AfD supporters, almost all are now against a general compulsory vaccination (91 percent).”
The second survey was carried out by the polling institute Civey. The results result from the survey “from 5,001 to 5,004 representatively selected participants between December 20, 2021 and December 21, 2021”. The questions were:
- What significance do you think Corona will have in everyday life after 2022 compared to this year?
- Are you personally afraid of contracting the Omikron corona variant?
The result shows that almost 40 percent of German citizens are afraid of “developing the particularly contagious Corona variant Omikron” (dpa). Half of the Germans, on the other hand, said they were not afraid of a possible Omicron infection. According to the survey, 32 percent of those surveyed fear that Corona will have an even greater importance in everyday life in the coming year than in the year that is now ending. 48 percent believe that the topic will play as important a role in everyday life as it has before. Only 17 percent of those surveyed suspect that the importance of Corona could decrease in 2022, according to the dpa.
