Anderlecht coach Vincent Kompany said he was “disgusted” by racist abuse directed at him by Club Brugge fans during the two teams’ 2-2 draw in Belgium’s first division football on Sunday.
The 35-year-old former Manchester City captain said some of his players were also targeted.
Kompany told Eleven TV: I left this match feeling disgusted. My coaching staff and I were insulted throughout the match. Racial insults were directed at the players as well. The day ends badly. I will meet with my faucets and the people I care about. We shouldn’t have to go through this yet.
Brugge condemned the behavior of its fans, and the club wrote on its Twitter account: “These individuals do not represent the values and standards of our club and have no place in the Jan Bridel Stadium.”
Belgium international striker Romelu Lukaku called on the football authorities to respond, as the Chelsea striker wrote on his account on “Instagram”: “An icon like Vincent Kompany was insulted because of the color of his skin, that’s enough, take real action now.”
