The Football Association is investigating allegations of racist abuse directed at Arsenal’s substitutes by a Leeds fan during Saturday’s Premier League match.
And the British news agency reported that referee Andre Mariner stopped play in the 38th minute to consult with match officials after the incident was reported, and Arsenal coach Michael Arteta confirmed after the match that some substitute players had been targeted.
Leeds condemned the abuse following the 1-4 loss and stated in a statement that one of the people involved in the incident had been arrested.
The club said: “Leeds United can confirm that an investigation into allegations of racism during the first half of our match against Arsenal is currently ongoing, and that a person has been arrested in connection with the allegations.”
He added: Racism will not be tolerated in Leeds and any fan found to be using racist language will be subject to a life ban from the team’s matches.
