Tunisia coach Mondher El Kebir hopes to win the Arab Football Cup when he faces Algeria in an upcoming summit at Al Bayt Stadium on Saturday in order to please the fans and avenge those who tried to cast doubt on his team.
El-Kabeer told reporters: We will face Algeria in the same way, a lot of strength and courage. We want to restore the confidence of the fans in us by winning the cup and gifting it to them and Yassine Meriah after his injury. We were happy to reach the final, but there was some heartbreak because we lost one of our family.
Meriah suffered a serious knee injury during the 1-0 win over Egypt in the Arab Cup semi-final on Wednesday, in the latest obstacle facing Al Kabeer, after he suffered many absences at the start of the tournament due to injuries and Covid-19.
Al-Kabir refused to consider the confrontation of Algeria as revenge after the friendly loss last June, but considered it as revenge against other things, as he stated: It is revenge against the people who doubted us and tried to bring confusion to the team, and against the last period in which we moved away from the final matches and the titles.
He concluded: We will play with great energy and strength until we win the title, and to show that this group is working hard and that this effort deserves the crown.
