The Gulf summit concluded last Tuesday with the issuance of the Riyadh Declaration, which summarized what the Gulf leaders agreed upon during their meeting in Diriyah – the historical capital of the Kingdom. It comprises our country.
The assertion of the Gulf leaders from Diriyah on the importance of completing the elements of economic unity and the joint defense system, came in line with the spirit of this city, and the unitary role it played more than two centuries ago. and developing them to levels that achieve the aspirations and aspirations of the peoples of this region.
Indeed, the GCC countries that seek to strengthen their unity and achieve economic integration among themselves need to stand united behind the Kingdom, as the latter is not only, as it is called in the Gulf: the big sister, but also the capital of war and common defense, if any country is attacked by The GCC states, God forbid, for any external threat or aggression against them – this deserves a lot. The study of Kuwait proved, in practice, the distinguished role that the Kingdom occupies in the Gulf system. Saudi Arabia – when Kuwait was occupied in August 1990 – changed 180 degrees and turned into a military barracks. All local and international forces that contributed to the liberation of Kuwait in February 1991 mobilized on its lands.
The Kingdom’s position in the Gulf system is similar to Germany’s position in the European system. But with a difference. We in the Gulf are not Europeans, and our culture, traditions and customs, which differ from them and others, all give the Kingdom in the Gulf system an additional, greater position than the position occupied by Germany in the European Union.
And I think that this Gulf custom is supposed to be documented, within the protocols of the Gulf Cooperation Council, so as not to cause division between the brothers. The Kingdom is not only the largest country in terms of area and population, but also the largest Gulf and Arab economy. This economy, whose size is expected to reach 6.400 trillion riyals by 2030, is a huge base for economic integration among the GCC states.
The components that the Kingdom enjoys, and they are many, and it is not possible to mention them here, that gave and give the Gulf Cooperation Council all this weight it occupies. Saudi Arabia is the heart of this council, whose impulses radiate vigor and vitality. This concept is supposed to be translated and codified, so that the rudder of this Council will move towards the goals pursued by the peoples of the region.
