The additional work of vaccinating doctors is time-consuming as well as physically stressful. The state reimbursement for this additional work is, however, lucrative, so the effort is at least financially worthwhile.
According to one article from Business Insider the state pays vaccinating doctors 28 euros per corona vaccination, on weekends and on public holidays even 36 euros for the corresponding implementation in practices.
The increase to 28 euros instead of the previous 20 euros per vaccination was ordered by then Health Minister Jens Spahn under the old government. The weekend pay with an increase of eight euros was also adjusted at the same time. The corresponding regulation was signed by Spahn in mid-November.

According to the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV), 100,000 medical practices are currently participating in the corona vaccination campaign. In February of this year informed the KBV that the capacities of the vaccination centers in Germany are no longer sufficient to “take all available doses against the COVID-19 virus [sic!] The vaccination capacity of around 400 vaccination centers nationwide in February was estimated at 1.4 million vaccinations per week (200,000 daily).
In the past week were therefore loud Business Insider around 4.5 million corona vaccinations carried out in medical practices in Germany. “On average, that makes about 45 vaccinations per practice per week.” The author of the Busines-Insider-Article calculates: “That makes an income of at least 1,260 euros for a week – more, the more vaccinations take place on the weekend. With such vaccination figures, an average income of at least 5040 euros per month would come together”.
The additional earnings depend on the size of the practice and the resulting “order amount” of available vaccination doses. “Doctors’ offices that are run by several doctors could in turn order and inoculate a multiple of this sum.”
It should be noted that the state payments for the corona vaccinations are gross amounts. The medical practices would have to pay tax on them. “At the same time, the income is offset by expenses for personnel and labor as well as documentation – with the practices being provided with the vaccination equipment at the expense of the state by the pharmacies.”

The KBV also struck loudly Business Insider, recently proposed to the federal government to pay doctors holiday supplements between the years, even if it is on weekdays. According to this, doctors’ representatives should join the federal government’s corona crisis team warned have that “many practices open between Christmas and New Year’s Eve – but you can change that if you pay for the days such as weekend or public holidays”.
So far, the Ministry of Health has reacted rather confused or “has not yet finally reacted to the proposal”.
Another one directed at politics Initiative The KBV is in the demand that weekend and evening surcharges for additional vaccination consultation hours outside of practice opening hours are made possible.
The “financial attractiveness” of this additional activity is, however, much higher when working in vaccination centers. “Vaccination doctors there receive an hourly wage of around 150 euros – an eight-hour shift would add up to a daily gross of 1,200 euros. With 20 working days that makes a gross monthly salary of 24,000 euros,” according to the bill Business Insider.
