The writer and Islamic thinker, Dr. Najeh Ibrahim, revealed in the second episode of the “Political Memory” program broadcast by Al-Arabiya channel, that Khaled Islambouli was the one who presented the idea of assassinating Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to Muhammad Abd al-Salam.
He said to him: I am participating in the military parade commemorating October 6, 1981, and I want to get rid of Anwar Sadat. Islambouli was hated by Sadat for signing the Camp David Accords with Israel, and he was furious when the authorities arrested his brother in a series of arrests known as the September 1981 reservations.
In the episode, Najeh Ibrahim talks about the security gaps that existed in the military parade and that the planners and executors exploited to assassinate the Egyptian president at the time. The founding member of the Islamic Group, who spent 24 years in prison, faced the harshness of imprisonment with openness and love, studying law and literature and treating patients. In prison, Najeh Ibrahim participated in the launch of the non-violence initiative. Ibrahim praised the role of Major General Ahmed Raafat in working to launch the initiative to renounce violence adopted by the Islamic Group inside the prison, which prompted it to review its extremist ideas and stances. He also indicated that Abdel Ghaffar Muhammad, the judge who sentenced him and his companions to prison, was just, and he intervened with former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak when he learned that there was a tendency to re-arrest some of the convicts after their release, and he succeeded in his endeavor.
