According to the Federal Statistical Office, the significant excess mortality in Germany since the beginning of September is only partly due to the reported corona deaths. It is worth taking a look at the databases of the Paul Ehrlich Institute.
According to a projection by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), 82,733 people died in Germany in October 2021. The number is nine percent above the mean value (median) for the years 2017 to 2020 for this month (+6,615 cases). This is the result of a special evaluation of the preliminary deaths, the portal shares Statista With.
A comparison of the total deaths with the number of COVID-19 deaths reported to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) by date of death is possible up to and including the 41st calendar week 2021 (October 11th to 17th). According to the RKI, there were 381 COVID-19 deaths this week – the numbers have thus been largely constant since mid-September. They therefore do not explain the increased overall mortality in September and October.
At the state level, the number of deaths can currently be shown up to and including the 40th calendar week (October 4 to 10). This week, in most federal states, they were above the mean value of previous years. The deviation was highest in Rhineland-Palatinate (+16 percent or 137 cases). In Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, the number of deaths was in the range of the comparative value from previous years.
Felix zur Nieden, advisor for demographic analyzes and model calculations at the statistical office, explained on Thursday that the COVID-19 deaths reported to the Robert Koch Institute for October were responsible for only about a third of the increased excess mortality that month. He gave this according to one Message from Focus announced on Thursday in a press conference in Wiesbaden.
Zur Nieden blames an “unreported number” of unreported corona deaths and the long-term consequences of corona diseases for the increase. The effects of postponed operations and checkups may also have been revealed. According to the statistics office, certainty about this would only be provided by detailed research results. The exact contribution of individual factors cannot currently be mapped in concrete terms.
The Paul Ehrlich Institute (PEI) provides another explanation for excess mortality. In the current Security report from October 26th of this year, which unfortunately only covers the period from December 27th, 2020 to September 30th, 2021, can be read:
“In 1,802 suspected cases, a fatal outcome was reported at different times after the vaccination.”
“172,188 suspected cases of side effects or vaccination complications reported from Germany in connection with vaccination with the mRNA vaccines Comirnaty (BioNTech Manufacturing GmbH) and Spikevax (MODERNA BIOTECH SPAIN, SL) as well as the vector vaccines Vaxzevria (AstraZeneca AB) and COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen to protect against COVID-19 “.
Within the scope of spontaneous reports, a total of 1,243 reports of myocarditis or pericarditis (heart muscle inflammation) were still reported by September 30, 2021, regardless of the causal relationship with the respective vaccination recorded been. The reporting rate was highest among boys and male adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17 and young men under 30 years of age.
As of October 2021 similar nominal level As was vaccinated against COVID-19 in September with the substances mentioned, it can be assumed that the side effects and “suspicious transaction reports” given here with “fatal outcome at different intervals from the vaccination” also appeared this month. On elsewhere clarifies the PEI about the reports of side effects or “vaccination complications”:
“A disadvantage of collecting suspicious reports on vaccination complications or side effects is that it is not possible to make statements about the actual frequency of side effects. It is known that not all side effects are reported. This so-called ‘underreporting’ has numerous reasons, e.g. the patient reports not at the doctor’s or the doctor does not establish the connection with a vaccination that has taken place (e.g. because the symptoms are assigned to an underlying disease). The exact extent of the ‘underreporting’ cannot be precisely quantified. “

The safety and effectiveness of corona vaccines are controversial issues. Numerous experts in science, politics and the media rate these as safe and effective, as they largely prevent the risk of severe COVID-19 disease and the benefits of a corona vaccination outweigh the risks and side effects. Long-term side effects of vaccinations are generally not known. Risks such as the ADE effect (antibody-dependent enhancement, in German: infection-enhancing antibodies) have not yet been observed with billions of vaccine doses administered worldwide. The fact that gene sequences from, for example, mRNA vaccines are incorporated into human DNA is also ruled out by experts.
