Rangers have revealed that they are “extremely surprised and disappointed” after French authorities prevented the club’s fans from traveling for a Europa League match against Olympique Lyonnais.
Rangers fans have been banned from traveling to European matches in the past due to occasional discriminatory chants.
“Only late last week they agreed that 2,200 fans could attend,” Rangers said in a statement. Undoing it is very confusing and frustrating given the short lead time, and we sympathize with the feeling of the fans, who made travel plans several months in advance.
The group stage match coincides with the “Festival of Light” in Lyon.
Rangers have already decided their place in the knockout stages in the European League alongside Lyon, the leaders in Group A.
